Gems in general are significantly easier to find in Spyro 2 because of Sparx’s Gem Pointer ability. Keep in mind however that if there are Gems that Sparx is pointing to that you can’t reach, it’s very likely that they’re in a section of the level that you can’t reach without one of the Moneybags moves: Swimming, Climbing or Headbashing.

If you still can’t find any Gems, here’s a listing of some likely candidates.

    Summer Forest

    Colossus

    • If you’re missing a bunch of Gems and one of the statues for the Evil Spirit Search Orb Challenge, use the Spring Powerup to get on top of the roof where the Return Home Portal is. From there, go along the snowy path and into an ice cave with the goodies.

    Idol Springs

    • A pair of Gems that get missed quite often are a pair of Purple Gems located to the right of the tunnel at the bottom of the lake at the start of the level. This is the puzzle that leads to the first of Foreman Bud’s puzzles.

    Sunny Beach

    • Two easily missable miss Gems are located early in the third area, the first outside. Stand in the doorway connecting the second and third areas, then search the area on your right to find a Purple Gem. Now go to the button nearby and look left to find a Green Gem in the corner. Sneaky!

    Aquaria Towers

    • If you’re missing ten Gems, go into the second room after fully flooding the level and look for the metallic tower on the left side. Two Purple Gems can be found on the arches at the top connecting it to the wall.
    • Not missing Gems as such, but if you’re missing a single Frond for this level’s Skill Point, check the left side area at the end of the tunnel connecting the first and second rooms.

    Autumn Plains

    Crystal Glacier

    • A couple of Gems can be found near Moneybags, behind the nearby huts at the edge of the cliff.
    • If you’re missing 35 Gems and haven’t finished the level, there are three Baskets in the final building where Chief Shaman Tuk is. You’ll have to unfreeze the three cavemen outside to get inside of it.

    Breeze Harbor

    • A very easily missed Basket can be found in the area near the end of the level where the catapult is. Go to the far end past the catapult and keep an eye on your right to find the Basket, which has a Gold Gem in it.

    Zephyr

    • Early in the level you can shoot a Balloon Vase using the very first cannon in the level. Make sure to check the ravine where the Balloon Vase was, as a Purple Gem will have fallen into it!

    Fracture Hills

    • To open the Sealed Chest in the little cave in the lower part of the level, you need to Supercharge into it. The easiest way to do that is to travel along the Supercharge course until you emerge from the second tunnel. From there you can either…
      • A) Jump off the second turn on the rocky bridge and turn hard left onto an island in the lava, then onto the land in front of the Sealed Chest room.
      • B) Jump right a bit off the first turn on the rocky bridge to get onto the grassy area of the main level path. From there you cam make a more gradual left-hand turn to circle around to where the Sealed Chest room is.
    • An alternate method to get the Sealed Chest is to take a left-hand turn as soon as you go through the Supercharge Powerup, past the Earthshaper and then Jump over the ledge, which sends you on a direct path to the Sealed Chest Room.

    Scorch

    • If you’re missing a large amount of Gems, head to the bridge connecting the third and fourth areas and look for the steps on the left-hand side of it that leads to a path running alongside a green moat. Ride the Whirlwind at the end up to the top to find a lot of Gems, some Baskets and a lot of Explosive Vases.

    Magma Cone

    • Early in the level you’ll climb up the second ladder on the side of a cone. From here, look down to a lava river that circles around the base of the cone. You can find three Purple Gems on the walkway next to the lava.
    • Near the ladder mentioned in the above tip, you’ll hop up a ledge to find Zoe, and you can go left and Glide to a grassy elevated area. When you land there, look behind Spyro to find a Green and Purple Gem.

    Winter Tundra

    Winter Tundra Home

    • If you’re missing exactly seven Gems in this level, you’re probably missing the ones located behind the door to Ripto’s Arena. You’ll need 40 Orbs to open the door.

    Mystic Marsh

    • If you’re missing ten Gems, look above the area where Basil the Explorer is to spot a Balloon Vase. You can reach it by sing the Spring Powerup nearby to launch into the air and Flame the balloon, breaking the Vase open on the ground below.

    Cloud Temples

    • Early on in the level you’ll enter the first building and go left across a walkway into another room. Here cross over to the other side of the room in the archway and look right, where you’ll find four Vases with Purple Gems and a Green Gem on the ground.
    • Near Agent Zero will be a Sealed Chest and no clear way to open it. To do so, kill 21 enemies so that you can activate the Superfreeze Powerup next to Murgen the Wizard from the nearby room. Complete his Orb Challenge, then go through the Superfreeze Powerup and use the Whirlwind behind him to get back onto the roof. Get to the inside of the bell tower and stand on the left side of the archway, looking for a ledge on the left side. Glide over to it and Flame the rocket there once the Superfreeze wears off. The Rocket will burst the Sealed Chest open and release two Red Gems, a Purple Gem and a Pink Gem.
